Vitamin D Deficiency in Acute Myocardial Infarction and its Association with Diabetes

Background: Vitamin D deficiency is a global public health problem. linked to number of non skeletal major chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease.Objectives: To determine the frequency vitamin in patients presenting with ST segment elevated myocardial infarction. Methods: During study period, 150 fulfilling selection criteria elevation Myocardial infarction were included this study. A blood sample for 25-hydroxyl level was drawn each patient. defined as less than or equal 20g/dl. stratified demographics such age, gender, and Comorbids smoking Diabetes. Results: The mean age 51.6±6.7 years. There 80 (53.3%) male 70 (46.7%) female patients. 52 (34.7%) smokers 55 (36.7%) had diabetes mellitus Comorbids. serum 23.46±0.82 ng/ml. Sixty-four (49.3%) levels below 20ngml, while another 46(30.6%) insufficient ranges 21-30ng/ml. no association Diabetes history (p value >90.05 all these variables). Conclusion: present over half Only 20% acute normal values, remaining having levels. not associated comorbidity
